Getting Started in 3d
Are you interested in 3d graphics but have no idea how to get started? Here's your answer - and no, I'm not selling anything. It's free! Blender 3d is an extremely powerful, open-source 3d program. I'm not going to list all of it's features here, but in short, you can create 3d objects, animations, games, and movies with sound, among other things. Why is it free? What's the catch? There is no catch - you can read all about it on their website, listed below. That was the good news - here's the flip side. You'll need a few things to be sucessful - patience, and a pretty nice computer. Blender will run on most anything, but like all very powerful programs, it needs some room to work.
My advice to you: Don't give up. Blender can be intimidating. There is no "Make a race car" button. Buy the blender book (you don't have to, but it will help), work through some tutorials, and become an active member on Blender Artists.org. That's it. Enjoy.
